PCR Swab and Nasal Rapid Test

Testing POSITIVE for the PCR nasal swab means you currently have COVID 19, the illness caused by Coronavirus. That means that you may have symptoms of the Coronavirus. This also means that you are contagious and must isolate from others. The most accurate and up to date information on COVID 19 can be found on the Center for Disease Control’s website – www.cdc.gov

IgG Antibody

You tested POSITIVE for IgG Antibodies against COVID 19 (Coronavirus). What does this mean?

  1. Testing POSITIVE for IgG antibodies means that these antibodies were detected in your blood. This may indicate exposure to the COVID-19 virus. It usually takes at least 10 days after symptoms onset for IgG to reach detectable levels in the blood.

  2. An IgG POSITIVE result means that your body has developed an immune response to a primary infection with COVID-19, but the relationship between IgG positivity and immunity to COVID-19 has not yet been firmly established.

  3. Antibody tests have not been shown to definitively diagnose or exclude COVID-19 infection. Diagnosis of COVID 19 is made by detection of COVID-19 RNA by molecular testing methods, such as having a PCR swab of your nose sent for testing, and consistent with a patient’s clinical findings.

You tested NEGATIVE for IgG Antibodies against COVID 19 (Coronavirus). What does this mean

  1. An IgG NEGATIVE result means that your body has NOT developed an immune response to a primary infection with COVID-19.

  2. An IgG NEGATIVE result does not rule out, COVID 19 infection particularly in those who have been in contact with a virus. Follow-up testing with a nasal swab PCR should be considered to rule out infection in these individuals.
